Details of POGIL SPUR

  • POGIL SPUR (Special Project Underwriting Request) is designed to promote (SPUR) diffusion of POGIL by awarding small grants for special projects
  • Priority will be given to projects with a likely lasting impact that serve to further the goals of the POGIL project and are not likely to happen without funding
  • Suggested amount of request: between $500 and $3000
  • No indirect costs can be charged
  • Typically, projects that request money to pay stipends solely for the purpose of writing/developing activities are not funded. Extenuating circumstances that require a stipend solely for the activity writing to occur may be considered if this aspect is thoroughly explained
  • Normally, expenses related to presenting work at a professional meeting will not be eligible for SPUR funding
  • IRB approval should be obtained when data will be collected from human participants

Dates for POGIL SPUR

  • There will be 2 "rounds" of awards each year
  • This year's deadlines for submission: April 15th and August 11th
  • Proposals received by April 15th will be ruled on by June 15th
  • Proposals received by August 11th will be ruled on by October 1st

Proposal Process

  • Proposal Format: maximum 5000 character project description, 1000 characters describing each participant's background (all limits include whitespace), categorized budget description
  • Proposals must be accompanied by brief statements of support from two individuals (submitted via the web) who have previously facilitated a POGIL workshop. Click here to pop up a list of the past facilitators who would be able to provide statements of support. While you are encouraged to ask individuals if they are willing to provide a statement of support, once your proposal has been submitted, statements of support will be requested directly from the POGIL office
  • Proposals will be reviewed by an anonymous three-person review panel
