ANA-POGIL: Adopting POGIL Methodology for Analytical Chemistry

Goals of this ANA-POGIL website

  • Facilitate development of POGIL materials for analytical chemistry courses, covering quantitative analysis and instrumental analysis topics

  • Make POGIL materials available to interested analytical chemistry instructors

  • Provide feedback for developed POGIL materials or materials "in process"

  • Facilitate the formation of an analytical chemistry community to exchange ideas / best practices, mentor efforts in new pedagogies, and address any other pertinent issues in analytical chemistry

Why adopt POGIL methodology for analytical chemistry?

Analytical chemists need to have strong problem solving skills, data acquisition and data handling skills, and a critical eye for judging the quality of data and experimental results. The POGIL methodology has been shown to be effective for advancing these skills and improving student learning in other chemistry sub-disciplines. POGIL materials are an exemplary vehicle to impart analytical chemistry course content while promoting the effective growth of much needed analytical skills including information processing, analytical reasoning and advanced problem solving.
