Steering Committee Roles and Responsibilities


 The Steering Committee shall be composed of POGIL practitioners and content matter experts that will serve as the management team for the operational aspects of the Project. 

1.   The Steering Committee will work with the Board of Directors on Strategic Planning for the Project.       The Steering Committee will do this by:

  •      Providing direction and defining goals of the Project.
  •      Brainstorming/recommending new ideas for the future.
  •      Develop and recommend operational strategies for the implementation of the goals contained in the strategic plan.
  •     Implementing the strategic goals of the Project.

2.     The Steering Committee will ensure the quality and consistency of materials and training workshops.  The Steering Committee will do this by:

  • Regularly reviewing materials developed for and used in POGIL workshops and trainings.
  • Setting review policies and guidelines for materials published or advertised with the POGIL logo.

3. The Steering Committee will promote the Mission, Vision, and Values of the POGIL Project by:

  • Developing, offering, and evaluating workshops to encourage and support adoption of POGIL pedagogies consistent with the MVV;
  • Developing and providing training for facilitators of POGIL workshops in a manner consistent with the MVV, especially in underrepresented areas within the project (non-science content areas);
  • Fostering the development of new workshop facilitators and project managers in each region to assist with the implementation of the strategic goals of the project.

4. The Steering committee will be responsible for the structure and activities of the annual national meeting.  

  • Develop important training and new workshop modules.
  • Determine strategies to utilize the people resources within the project to further the MVV.
  • DUse the national meeting to develop/form new project teams to help promote the MVV.
